Contrast Therapy
Contrast therapy uses a combination of thermotherapy (heat therapy) and cryotherapy (cold therapy). If you become sore or tender easily, or are very active, this massage may be for you.
Benefits of contrast therapy:
- Reduces pain and inflammation
- Reduces swelling
- Increased energy and alertness
- Reduces soreness from exercise and overworked muscles
When our muscles are tired and stiff, we tend to run to heat to loosen them up. Heat is a great way to promote blood flow and warm the tissues of your body, allowing the tissues to stretch and have more mobility. Although, heat can block nerve signals from going to the brain. This means that you could easily overstretch your muscles if you are active or recovering from inflammation or injury. That is where cryotherapy comes in. Cryotherapy, or cold therapy, reduces inflammation and lessens blood flow in your extremities. This way you are not at risk of over stretching your muscles for any reason. It also promotes blood flow in your core, bringing extra oxygen and nutrients to your vital organs.
